Privacy & your choices
This page explains the features of the public BackwoodGenius experience.
Smiles
When you use “This made me smile,” a random browser cookie helps keep one appreciation per post from that browser. The saved reaction uses a hashed browser identifier and a time, rather than a public profile. The cookie lasts up to one year. Smile totals are not shown publicly. Clearing cookies resets this browser’s recognition; it does not erase a reaction already saved.
Recently enjoyed
Recently opened smiles and games are stored only in this browser. They are not synchronized to another device. You can clear them below.
Music and browsing
Music starts when you choose to play it. It can continue between the public browsing pages in the same tab. Starting a game, opening an account page, or closing the player stops that playback. Your browser may retain navigation and player preferences locally.
Accounts and feedback
Account registration asks for a display name, email address, and password. Passwords are stored as hashes. Feedback records your rating, optional note, page address, session information, browser details and IP address, and may be associated with your account when signed in. Registration also uses anti-spam checks.
Visits and technical records
The site uses session cookies and visit records to operate and understand page use. Server records can include page addresses, referring pages, timestamps, browser information and network addresses.
